Dermal Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, etc.)
Juvederm: The next generation in wrinkle removers
Juvederm is a long-lasting facial filler gel that adds volume and lifts the areas being treated. It is made of hyaluronic acid which is comparable to natural substances in the body and so presents no risk of allergic reaction. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm supports the body’s natural production of the substance and supports plumpness in the lips and volume in the skin. Juvederm can also be used to fill in areas of a particular wrinkle or crease.
One of the primary benefits of Juvederm is that it is obtained by biosynthesis of non-animal origin, making the molecule highly biocompatible. For this reason, it does not require allergy testing prior to treatment.
Juvederm can restore the plumpness and sensuality of your lips in a way that looks natural. It can also smooth the curves of your face without creating harsh lines or angles. This can all be achieved with a minor injection with an ultra-fine needle. Minor perfections and signs of aging are evenly softened, for a refreshed but natural look.
Juvederm is an excellent choice of treatment for:
- Lip enhancement & augmentation
- Facial lines
- Smile lines around the eyes mouth and forehead
- Deep folds
- Wrinkle correction
- Shaping facial contours, including the chin and cheek, with a non-surgical facelift
Juvederm results usually last from six to nine months, depending on the type of skin you have, the amount of Juvederm injected, the area treated and the technique used during the procedure.
Outcomes can be optimized to last longer with a follow-up procedure a few weeks after your initial treatment. Ask Dr. Goravanchi if this is a good option for your during your primary consultation.
About the Juvederm Procedure
Because Juvederm injectable gel is a non-surgical, outpatient injection, there is minimal to no recovery or downtime. You can get right back to your routine.
Dr. Goravanchi will gently inject the Juvederm gel under your skin to fill and augment the area you would like treatment. He may gently massage the skin following the injection. The procedure is fast and easy, usually totaling about 15 minutes.
Juvederm Recovery & Aftercare
For the first 24 hours following the procedure, you should avoid intense exercise, consuming alcoholic beverages and excessive sun or heat exposure to minimize the risk of itching, swelling or redness. It is not uncommon to have temporary injection-related reactions such as redness, firmness, swelling, bumps and pain. According to studies, these reactions are mild to moderate and resolve on their own in 7 days or less. To speed recovery, you may apply an ice pack to the injection site for a short time.
Juvederm Results
You should see an instant improvement in the areas you have selected to enhance with Juvederm. Most patients need just one treatment to achieve smoother skin and wrinkle reduction. However, outcomes vary from patient to patient. The results can last 6 months or more, and supplemental treatments are usually required to maintain optimal results.
Restylane®
As we age, the years begin to show more and more on our faces. With Restylane®, you can experience a natural lift in volume of the face with a safe, biocompatible substance. Restylane is a clear, non-animal gel formulated to equate to a natural bodily substance, called hyaluronic acid.
The gel is injected into the skin with an ultra-fine needle in very small amounts. The result is immediate and creates long-lasting natural enhancement.
How long does Restylane last?
Restylane will last anywhere from 6 to 9 months. The longevity does depend on each patient’s response to the gel and the location treated. Some patients opt to get “maintenance treatments” when they notice the volume of their original treatment beginning to decrease. Others wait the full 9 months or longer before getting additional treatments.
Do Restylane injections hurt?
Injections of Restylane are relatively painless. Sometimes a local anesthesia such as lidocaine is used to further manage pain. Most patients do not require anesthesia, especially those being treated for folds and wrinkles.
How is Restylane produced?
Restylane is produced from bio-compatible, non-animal substances so it is safe and hypoallergenic.
Which areas are normally treated with Restylane?
The most common areas for Restylane injections are the lips, the laugh lines (nasolabial folds) and frown lines (glabellar lines). Wrinkles may be difficult to correct with Restylane alone so other procedures or treatments may be recommended by Dr. Goravanchi to fully accomplish your image goals.
What can I expect during a Restylane treatment?
A Restylane treatment is a very fast and simple process. Because no skin testing is required, the procedure can be started immediately and takes about 30 minutes. Restylane is injected with a small needle under the skin and results can be seen instantly.
Can Restylane be taken out or removed?
An injection of Restylane dissolver can make the material disappear if you would like to reverse the treatment.
Is Restylane safe?
Restylane is safe. Because hyaluronic acid naturally exists in the body, it does not react negatively to Restylane injections. More than 100,000 people have received Restylane treatments and only a very small fraction have reported any reactions like redness, tenderness, itching or swelling which dissipated in a matter of weeks or even shorter periods of time.
What will my skin look like after my Restylane treatment?
Some patients may experience slight redness, tenderness or swelling at the injection sites. This is temporary. Lips are especially prone to swelling and may even look uneven for up to 24 hours. This will dissipate and results will look natural.
Radiesse
Leasing surgeons agree that patients with defined creases or wrinkles may benefit most from injectable fillers. In the past, solutions were limited to bovine collagen injections that sometimes led to allergic reactions or solid implants that did not provide a natural look or feel.
Modern technology has provided the solution. Now, we can offer a long-lasting, safe and natural alternative to these tissue fillers. It’s called Radiesse®.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is the first calcium hydroxylapatite injectable cohesive implant that can be used for soft tissue augmentation. During the last seven years, Radiesse has proven itself as a safe and effective alternative for patients who want to avoid the unintended consequences and potential side effects of bovine or solid implants.
Radiesse is long-lasting application that does not require skin testing prior to treatment. This is because it is composed of the same mineral component found in our bones and teeth. By supplementing the depleted collagen levels of your own skin with Radiesse, we can smooth out most scars and wrinkles. He can also significantly improve nasal furrows and deeper frown lines.
Which areas respond best to Radiesse treatments?
- Hands
- Corners of the mouth
- Depressed scars
- Nose (for primary or revision non-surgical rhinoplasty)
- Lower eye bags or dark circles
- Lines around the mouth
- Laugh lines
What can I expect during a Radiesse treatment?
The Radiesse procedure is performed in office and takes about 15 minutes. Radiesse is pre-loaded in syringes and is used in treating facial lines and correcting other soft tissue defects.
First, Dr. Goravanchi will apply a small amount of local anesthetic. Then he will inject the Radiesse into the wrinkle with a tiny needle placed just under the skin.
Radiesse is not like other fillers in that it is not absorbed by the body over time. For this reason, Dr. Goravanchi is careful not to overfill wrinkles and fine lines. Results can be seen instantly.
How many treatments of Radiesse will I need?
This all depends on the patient, the desire result and the area being treated. Results with Radiesse are instant, so you can see right away whether or not you would like additional injections or if you are happy with the immediate results. Typically, one treatment is sufficient to achieve the desired result.
Benefits of Radiesse:
- Immediate results
- No allergic reactions
- Soft and pliable results that last for years
- Cost-effective over time
- No need for tissue harvest
- Can be used alone or along with other facial rejuvenation procedures like chemical peels, skin rejuvenation or facial surgery
What can I expect right after my Radiesse treatment?
There is no downtime after a Radiesse treatment and patients can return to their normal activities. You will be able to see results immediately, whether you have asked for reduced wrinkles, enhanced lips or scar correction. Any discomfort from the procedure can be controlled with medication. At the site of treatment, you may experience slight swelling for 24 to 36 hours. Any visible bruising can be easily covered with makeup.
How long do Radiesse results last?
This depends on the area that you have treated. Results can last from several months to several years. Over time, some touch-up treatments may be recommended. However, Radiesse is one of the most long-lasting treatments on the market. Patients often comment on the fact that they don’t have to return for treatments every three months with Radiesse and they still look great.
